Welcome to another budget breakdown. After almost a month in Bangkok, I made my way to the next location, the beautiful city-state of Singapore. Here is rough breakdown of the costs on my 10-day trip in “The Gateway of South East Asia.”
ACCOMMODATIONS ==> $767.15 CAD.
FOOD & DRINK ==> $183.65 CAD.
PHONE & COMMUNICATION ==> $32.20 CAD.
TRANSPORTATION ==> $108.70 CAD.
RANDOM EXPENSES ==> $537.10 CAD.
The Singaporean Dollar was on par with the Canadian Dollar on the day I arrived in Singapore. The rate at the time was:
** Bugis Junction, Singapore. **
Before leaving Winnipeg, MB, I booked airplane tickets to Singapore a month in advanced, flying on Cathay Pacific. Total Airfare for ==> $110.00 CAD.
On my 10 -days in Singapore I stayed in a combination of hostels and hotels. Some much better than others. My suggestion is to check reviews and book each accommodation for only a couple days at a time. As I learned on my trip, some of places are severely overpriced and you can easily find much better accommodations down the street for a much better value.
Here is a quick breakdown of my accommodation in Singapore:
** Travelers & Backpackers @ SG ==> 2 Nights ==> $81.75 ==> 3/5 Stars. **
Five Stones Hostel ==> 1 Night ==> $20.95 ==> 4/5 Stars.
Hotel Boss ==> 3 Nights ==> $328.15 ==> 5/5 Stars.
** Merlion by Marina Bay Sands **
A review of each accommodation I stayed at will be posted in the near future, but for now a rating of my experience at each accommodation, based on value, location and cleanliness.
The total amount spent on accommodations ==> $767.15 CAD.
FOOD & DRINK
I didn’t go to many restaurants in Singapore. Most of my food runs were to the occasional McDonald’s, convenience stores and food courts. Again, I have to mention the food courts in Asia are amazing. They are of amazing value. Food is relatively cheap, cooked fresh and for the most part incredibly delicious.
Total spent on food and drink ==> $183.65 CAD.
** Gardens By The Bay **
PHONE / DATA & COMMUNICATIONS
Upon arrival I grabbed a travel Sim that gave me 15 days of unlimited data, with $15 credit for voice calls throughout South East Asia for a total of ==> $32.20 CAD.
Singapore has such an advanced public transit system. The whole city-state is connected to the subway system and can be easily traversed with a little bit of planning. The cost of using the subway system was relatively cheap, averaging about $1.50 per trip.
Total spent on Transportation in Singapore ==> $108.70 CAD.
** Marina Bay Sands **
Again, I was a little frivolous with my spending in this area on things like attractions and souvenirs.
There were lots to see in the city and many things had fees attached to the attraction. Some of these places included Marina Bay – Observation Deck, Gardens by The Bay, Cloud City & Flower Dome and the Boat Tours in Clarke Quay just to name a few.
Total spent on Random Things ==> $527.00 CAD.
** Singapore Skyline from Marina Bay sand Observation Deck **
Cost-wise, Singapore is very similar to many major cities in Canada. You sometimes forget that and that was clearly the case on my first trip to the city. A total of 10-days was spent in the beautiful city state of Singapore and total spent equated to roughly ==> $1,787.70 CAD.
